What are country houses in Venice?

The term Country House originally meant a "hands on" holiday on a working farm. The scope of the term has since expanded. In Venice, to be defined as agriturismo or "country house" and allowed to offer an accommodation service in rural premises, an establishment must be located in a manor house or farm with at least 5000 m2 of land available for sporting/recreational use; they must offer certain minimum facilities, consisting of a room and, perhaps, cooking facilities; have a restaurant open to the public, with a maximum of thirty covers; ideally have sport or recreational equipment.
Many of the country houses have parks and acres of land, swimming pools and restaurants, where you can try typical dishes of the Italian cuisine, local products and famous Italian "DOC" wines.
The term "country house" includes country houses, farmhouses, country cottages, ancient manor houses, and castles in the Italian countryside where rooms or apartments are available for rent.
